Teaching Mechanical Linkages at MIT Splash

High school students at MIT's Splash program learned the mathematics and design of mechanical linkages, then built their own from a kit of acrylic links, screws, and nuts.

MIT’s Educational Studies Program (ESP) runs Splash, a three-day event where high school students come to campus to take classes on all sorts of topics. We taught a class on the mathematics and design of mechanical linkages. Each student received a kit of laser-cut acrylic links, screws, and nuts so they could build and test their own linkages during class.
